Default Vietnam visa from Chiang Mai

Does anyone have a recommendation for getting a visa for Vietnam from Chiang Mai?

It is my understanding Vietnam isn't issuing VOA for US passports, and a visa needs to be in place before you enter the country. I'd rather not have to hoof it back to BKK for a multi-day layover to get one. (I will if I have to...) We are planning a September sojourn.

Thanks

Default vietnam embassy in US?

Hi,
Don't you have a vietnamese embassy in the Us? If so, perhaps its easy to arrange your visa's in advance.

There are a few, however we have been out of the US since January. We are in Chiang Mai and are hoping to avoid Bangkok. I had been given the impression CM had a Vietnamese embassy or consulate and have been unable to find one here.

Google is unable to find one in Chiang Mai either. Consulates in Chiang mai, Thailand

In Bangkok travel agents often have visa services but I'm not sure if they do it in other cities in Thailand.... not sure I'd risk it even if they do as it would probably involve sending your passports to Bangkok by post.

The Vietnamese visa is a bit more tricky than some ... you need to state the ports of entry and departure for example. More info here. Vietnam Passport and Visa Guide
