Default Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos

Hi All,

Hope all is well.

I am off to Thailand in April for 3 weeks.

I was think of doing a 1 week stop off at one of the above locations.

Which one do you recommend and why?

Cheers,

J

Hiya, welcome back to the forums!

That's a tough choice, as all three are rewarding countries. Out of the three, I would be tempted to pick Cambodia. The main reason for this is because you only have a week, and it's a compact, accessible country which you can see a lot of in a week. In contrast, Laos, whilst wonderful, is harder to travel around (in my opinion), requiring a lot of overlanding. In comparison, you can fly into the heart of Cambodia with Air Asia or one of the other carriers, and enjoy Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and maybe Sihanoukville or Kampot all in a week without too much rushing about.

Vietnam is also a wonderful country, but I would suggest you would need a lot longer than a week to explore this beautiful place due to its size and how spread out the sights are.

Just my opinion though!

Enjoy your trip and do pop into the Thailand forums for recommendations.

This is gonna be an answer many will disagree with...

Spend the extra week in... THAILAND!

I don't think you can "do" any of the other countries in a week. i would say use that time to get off the more common Thailand tourist routes and try to appreciate this place that you have been getting to know for 3 weeks. Thailand is a big place with lots of amazing places to go.

'sheeed

ps I live in Cambodia and love it, so my answer is not meant to belittle any of the other places. Just the opposite. I believe they are worth longer trips.

Thanks Sheeed, I think we are going to stick with your plan & stay in Thailand for the full 3 weeks.
