My fiancé and I are travelling to Vietnam for the first time, we are both very well travelled but have never been to Vietnam so I have lots of questions. Firstly we are about to booked;
4 nights in Ho Chi Minh at the Majestic hotel in a colonial deluxe pool room
5 nights in Hoi An at the Hoi An beach resort in a Garden view deluxe room
3 nights in Hanoi at the sofitel legend metropole in a premium room

would love some advice on the hotels and room types and will this give us enough time in each place and also as we did not wont to book tours before we got to Vietnam any advice on places to visit would be much appreciated

With your schedule i think that is ok
in Saigon you can visit Cu Chi tunnel, city tour and make one day trip to Mekong delta.
Hoi an is a lovely town you will have great relaxe time there, any way one day tour to Tra Que Village that make sence of life and oneday ecurion to My Son Cham culture ruin, if you like history
In hanoi: you can make one day trip to halong bay (the best bay in Vietnam) and one day to Tam coc Ninh binh is excelent

4 nights in Majestic with 95 USD room/nite for twin shared or double room/deluxe pool room. Majestic hotel is a five stars hotel, it almost good. Hoian beach is a resort with 4 stars standard and the rate from 60 USD. However, it's not resort next to the beach.
Sofitel is also five stars hotel and nothing to complaint
