Does anyone have an idea of the cost to get from the train station in surat thani to samui and how easy it is,also cost from the port on samui to chaweng beach and possibly some decent budget accomodation at chaweng around the May period.

are you leaving from bangkok? you can get a bus from suratthani to where the boat leaves fro samui, its cheap enough but if you're leaving from bangkok it is much better to get an all in one ticket.
