From memory, I don't think you need to dial any exit code - others here will correct me if that's wrong).

Yes, you can get good quality dvds in Bangkok - try the market stall outside the Irish Pub on Silom Rd. - Patpong area.
Also in MBK there's a shop called Maeow (or similar) on 2nd floor about the middle of the complex near the top of the escalators that run ACROSS the buliding. It's on a corner of main and side aisle, so it's quite easy to spot.

This shop only a small range on display but you can order lots of stuff from their catalogue, including new releases and complete boxed sets of mini-series (West Wing, Six Feet Under etc.) for delivery to your hotel next day. No problems ordering this way.

Normal exit code is 001, but to get a cheaper rate you should dial 007, 008, or 009 (exit code) + 61 (for OZ) + area code + phone number.

You may also buy a TOT card (Telecommunications of Thailand) in any 7/11 supermarket for 100 or 300 Baht and use the phone for international calls just outside the shop dialing 007 for cheaper rate.

Default mobile calls

to ring Aus from a mobile from any country you use +61 and drop the 0 from the front of the mobile number you are dialing.
I doubt very much if you will get any HD d.v.d. discs in thailand yet unless it is from a "proper" d.v.d. shop and probably wont be any diff in price than from home.
