Angry Thai Baht

What in the world has happen to the value of the USD against the Baht? It was between 40 and 42 Baht/$ about three years ago. Now it's 29 and change. That's about thirty percent less value Americans.

The rate at the m oment is about 33 Baht to one US$. It has nothing to do with the Thai baht BTW, but with the US$, the value of which has decreased in comparison to nearly all currencies world wide.

Default US$ vs Thai Baht, rates

The US dollar is in trouble all over the world due to our economy at home. the guest mentioned about 3 years ago, but the rate is really reverting back to what it was about 20 years ago when it was at about 25-27 baht to the US $. There are and will continue to be many factors as to why the rates flucuate. Knowing and understanding these trends can help a traveller decide when to travel to get most out of their dollars. While the dollar is weak, and if you are travelling anyway, knowing where to find great deals while on holiday also helps, there are still good deals to be found if you shop around. hope that helps.

There are two different exchange rates, onshore and the offshore rate which is around 10% lower. Confusing I know and it applies to all curriences. Exchanging money in thailand will get you the higher rate and ATM withdrawls and credit card transactions should also be at this rate. Transactions outside the country are at the lower rate and some hotel booking sites also use this lower rate.
Examples: Aus 30/26.7, UK 65/58, Euro 49/44, US&Can 33/29
