Default Similan Islands

Has anyone stayed overnight on the islands? I would like to, but don't know where to start. Where did you pick up the boat and how much did it cost? How did you make reservations to stay on the island? Do you need to bring your own food and linens? How can you jump from island to island during the day? Any information would be quite helpful. Thanks for all your responses.

Exclamation As far as I know

It is not legal for anyone to stay on the Similan Islands overnight. I do not know about liveaboards mooring right off the islands though.

Hi, a few years ago we went to the islands for just a day trip, organised by one of the travel shops in phuket. We did see people staying overnight there however they were with organised trips. We got a mini bus to just before Koh Lak (sp?) and then the speed boad. Its a long trip but well worth it.

The camp sites on the beach look well good! good tents with shower rooms etc.

if i get the chance to do this im going to book thru a tour agency so they can look after me!!

You can stay on the islands from May till April. Check the National Park website for details, there are cabins available and tens on islands 4 and 9.

You can catch a boat in Tab Lamu (Khao Lak). At the islands are longtails, that you can hire to take you to different islands. Food etc. you can buy on the islands.

From May till April? Aren't they closed during the rainy season? I was in the Surins last March...same same but different, more snorkelling orientated, Similans are better for divers I believe. You can get there from Khuraburi...very easy to organize transport to get there without booking ahead though they do get crowded at times...especially Songkran. Mostly Thai visitors.

The NP tents on the Surins were 300-450B/night without bedding though you can rent a (very)thin mat and a pillow as well if you like. Or you can take your own camping gear. There's a cafeteria which has a limited selection of food but it's OK. Showers and toilets were OK too, though there can be queues to use them at certain times of day. The longtail trips organized by the park were only 70B for a half day trip but they didn't actually drop you off at other islands, just the snorkelling spots....don't know if it's the same for the similans.
