I agree it it always more fun to have a travel companion with whom you can share all your experiences. But if you are an open minded and outgoing person I think you should take the chance and travel by yourself. You know, you will most certainly meet somebody in the same position as you, and from what I know you will probably find somebody who wants to go some of the same places like and you will travel together - if not all the time then at least some of the time, until you meet some other people.

A good place to start your journey and meet people I think would be in Khao San Road in Bangkok where a lot of young backpackers are staying for a couple of days before they start travelling around Thailand.

I would say it's safe to travel in Thailand, but like everywhere else you, of course, have to be sensible, take good care of yourself, and don't let anybody push you into something you don't feel is right. I'm sure you will have a great holiday experience.

i think that it is one of the few places that i would travel on my own.
I know lone females that have and really enjoyed it. 3 weeks is not too long and I am sure that you will meet up with others.

It may be too hard to desire to come alone, but as Flebo said is right. Thailand is country that always welcome travellers. As Thai Resident any help you need just let me know . Joining Group Tours ( can find easily on hotel tour desk) is another great joy, believe me you would be really fun. Take care

2 of my girlfriends travelled around Thailand alone (2 weeks each) and none of them wanted to go back home! They are both very open minded and sensible people and there were moments when dodgy guys approached them but they had their ways round to cut the conversations short (ie... my boyfriend is waiting at the hotel!!).

If you are backpacking, chances are that you'll meet fellow backpackers who you feel comfortable enough to hang around with. So if you need to go on treks or join tours, you will surely have some company and that is reasonably a safe option.

Just dont take unneccessary risks. Otherwise, I'm sure you will love Thailand as much as my friends did !

You can find at many places, especially small "mama cooking " restaurants, enough people to have a chat with!

Thumbs up safe in Thailand

I recently stayed at the Same Same Guest-House in Patong on the beautiful island of Phuket, Thailand.... famous for it's tsunami experience as much as its gorgeous beaches and wild nightlife.

Anyway the point of this message is to let you know that if you are a couple, a lone female or females travelling to this part of the world I stumbled upon this nice cheap budget accommodation in the heart of Patong.

It is a short walk away from Patong Beach and Bangla Road. For any girl who isn't familiar with Patong it is very much a "mans town" with endless girly bars down one street called Bangla Road but don't be put off... there is lots to see and some great new shopping places to visit like Jungceylon.

So if you plan to visit the island of Phuket the Same Same guest house, which I think is European owned and run by friendly Thai staff, is cheap as chips but clean and has sizable double rooms with en suite shower and air-con.

When you first get there it seems a little weird because the guesthouse has a beauty salon below at street level, but don't be put off... not far to go for a manicure and pedicure

As this place has a "couple and female only" policy, ther are no single beer swilling men and no bar girls coming and going like in most other places.

They will collect you and return you to the airport if requested.

I felt very safe and would recommend this guest house to any travelling females, especially anyone travelling for the first time to Phuket.

I do not have an email address but their website ( which is very basic) is www.samesamephuket.com and their phone is +66 8153 83331

Other quick tips are only pay 100 baht for any tuk tuk in and around patong, best breakfast at £1.50 is at Dangs Cafe close to the jungceylon end of bangla road. OH and never TIP more than 10-20 baht !

If I can be of any help on other matters please send me a message….

Vikki (born to travel)
