Hi I am planning a trip to Phuket with three friends in May/June next year. Does anyone have any idea of a good hotel to stay at in Patong. I have heard good things about the Banthai but am concerned about these overbooking scenarios i am reading about.

Any help is appreciated.

It all depends on the ages of you and your friends and if you have kids.The Holiday Inn is a great hotel for families and the Burasari is good for couples and so is the Patong Merlin. All hotels are central and on the beach.

i agree; depends on ur age and if ur with kids. BOOK online.
If ur not with kids, do u need a pool? That's what drives the pirce up BUT in may/june its low season and although the sea is rough, its still swimable

Is the best time when the weather is still pretty good, very few tourists and often "Stay X nights, get X nights free" deals on already low season rates; shop carefully and live like a king for a pauper's fee.

don't know where you are from but in the past we have got deals of stay 7 get 7 free in places like the Amari you just pay for breakfasts the 2nd week. we have got these by booking through travel companies in the uK even though we have not booked the flights with them. For example we got the amari in chewang this may for £651 for both of us for 14 nights. That is an excellent price when you compare that that would be around £1500 in high season.
i have found though that these were not available through any other media than the agents- that is for that particular hotel and may not apply to others.
Booking direct or in person is not the cheapest option.

We stayed at Baan Sukhothai which is in Bangla Rd and right in the heart of all the action at night, quite literally. About 50 meter walk to the beach and would not hesitate to stay there again - loved it!
