Hi David
The Landmark gets wonderful reviews but don't know it's cost, it could be up there. Belaire Princess and Siam Siam both have good reputations too.
You might like to checkout the hotel reviews on tripadvisor.
Cheers Geri

we like the bel aire princess and have stayed at the landmark as well the prices vary greatly depending on the season.
The Royal Orchid Sheraton on the river was lush but getting up a bit in price.
The bel Aire is in a good spot not too far from the sky train

Default BKK Hotel

Hi David
Have been reading a lot of good things about Siam@Siam Hotel lately. Apparently prices reasonable, very central and close to a Skytrain station.
Novotel Siam and Pathuman Princess also very popular for the same reasons. Not sure if my spelling is correct!

We like the silom serene and it is very reasonably priced and a block from skytrain. Breakfast is included. We took a 2 night tour to river kwai and stayed in river kwai jungle rafts hotel one night and their resotel the other. Added in an excursion for 2 one afternoon to tiger temple which was nearby. Loved it all! Make sure you visit jim thompson's house. we buy loads of elephant greeting cards for all those birthdays in their shop, they are about 3 for £1. admire the silk items, but they have all gotton too expensive for us.

llangennith outside swansea, but we are a strange mix- I am from rhode island and my husband is from cardiff. explains the mixed up kids, trilingual (american, english and welsh).

we're off to bangkok 14 jan thai airways courtesy of virgin hols. Do try and fit the tigers in, but it is too long for a day trip from bkk. why not spend at least one night in kanch. or resortel or other in the neighbourhood if you have the time- well worth it. Discovered from my mom that Jim Thompson lived next door to my grandma in Wilmington, delaware! fun.

Thumbs up bangkok sights

The tiger temple is only a couple of hours away from Bangkok and can easily be a day trip.We went last year and got our own driver to take us to the River Kwai,Museum and saw the Tiger monks all in one day. I have 2 kids so it wasn't exausting and if you take your own driver you can stop and start when you want.It wasn't rushed either so take your time enjoy the sights because it is fantastic there.

Hi David
The cost of the driver was between AUD80-00 to 100-00 I can't remember exactly but about that amount. We asked him how much his boss wanted and then gave him a tip on top so he still made money. He took us for the whole day and was truly the best way to do it he had alot of knowledge about the areas.
