Default snorkelling in the similan islands?

Heard many good things about the similan islands. However I do not dive and I only snorkel. Is it then worth the while and worth the money then to go on a full day snorkelling trip to the similan islands or am I better off going to nearby small islands off Phuket for a snorkelling experience.

Anybody would care to recommend how much a full day snorkelling trip to similan would costs? any particuarly good agencies to go with?

any other comments appreciated. Thanks

Exclamation The Similans are a long

trip to go snorkelling for the day from Phuket! I am sure there are other islands closer between Phuket and Phi Phi that are probably good, but I would personally stay in Phi Phi and then snorkel there for a couple of days. Best snorkeling hotel in Phi Phi with good off its own beach snorkelling and on the leeward side of the island (much fewer waves) is Pee Pee Island Village. I have never been to the Similans on the basis it was practically all diving and liveaboards.

The snorkeling at the Similans is fantastic, and by far the best Thailand has to offer. However, it is quite far for a daytrip from Phuket.
So if you're really looking for a lovely snorkeling experience: go and make the trip, just book a trip that is a dedicated snorkeling trip, where you will be separate from divers. Costs will be around 2900 Baht.
If you're looking for a nice day out with some snorkeling: make a daytrip to Phi Phi or Racha Yai and enjoy the islands and beaches, and do some snorkeling in between.
