Bali Palm Recommendations for planning trip in Thailand Japan and Philippines

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a long trip (1.5 months) in Japan, Thailand and the Philippines starting March for me and my partner. Our current plan is to spend ~2 weeks in each. I'm now starting to plan where we should go more specifically in each country- so we can book the flights and i guess some hotels in advance etc. I would love to know if any of you who've traveled there before have found any helpful tools for planning the trip? for example -

- Any good websites (in English) with useful information about travel in these countries? Other useful sources of information to look for (I just ordered the LP for Japan)?

- What should I try to plan in advance vs leave for later? (besides visas which I know about already?) Any tips specific to SE Asia for planning these (e.g., good tools to plan transportation, hotels, etc).

- Any useful apps (e.g., tripadvisor in Europe is pretty good) that anyone thinks I should d/l (even if it costs a bit)?

Thanks a lot!
I'll probably have some specific Thai questions later on as I plan the trip...

PS about us - we're a couple in our early thirties, have travelled quite a bit around the world. We used to backpack a lot (Nepal, Australia, NZ, China) but our preferences have changed as we grew up. We now prefer to spend a couple of extra bucks if it saves us hassles or time on the trip. We may rent a car instead of take a bus, reserve hotels in advance instead of check out the hostels when we get there, etc. I also like to plan in advance more, to make decisions on where to go based on what we both like - and rely less on serendipity (or lack thereof).
