Default Advice needed first visit planned to Koh Samui

Hi all,
After a very busy year, I have just booked my flight to Koh Samui.
Have been told its great.

Going out 27th December for 3 weeks.

Is this a good time of year to go?

Havent booked any hotels as yet, any idea's ?
or just find something when i get there?

Hello

Not a bad time to be on Samui, plenty of people normally, weather can be a bit iffy but you`ll still see enough sun to get a tan & see the sites you want.

I`d get moving looking for a hotel.Xmas & new year are a busy period on Samui.Be aware that it is peak season so you will pay through the nose for any hotel/resort & a big chance you`ll get stung with a couple of thousand baht for a compulsory NYE Gala dinner wether you attend or not.

I don`t recommend turning up anytime without at least a night or 2 booked somewhere,I definetly wouldn`t do it over the new year period.

Let me know how much you want to spend per night & what area you think you`d like to stay & i`ll be happy to help you.

Jamie

Default Hi Jamie

Thanks for the advice, i thought as much. Have had a look on-line seems to be about £35-45 per night which will be fine. Was thinking of Lamai Beach, Or do you suggest somewhere else on the island?

we loved samui and have only stayed in one hotel there- the baan samui on chaweng beach (literally). Loads of hotels in chaweng are beachfront it that helps, although we would have trouble tearing ourselves away from the baan samui. Visited lamai one day and it also looked nice.

If you are thinking of Lamai beach then look on the web at Lamai Wanta. Don't know if you will manage to get any accomodation there as it is getting very popular.
If you are thinking of Samui for that time of year I would book.
New Years eve is good with loads and loads of fireworks.
some hotels - mainly the larger ones- charge for a new year gala dinner and it is compulsary. Just watch out for that.
You may get some rain but you should get sun too, just go with the flow.
We will be in Cuba this year spent the last 2 in Thailand.
Enjoy.

I personally like Chaweng Beach but there is nothing at all wrong with Lamai.

It`s just going to be very hard to get value out of any resort at that time of year but Lamai will offer you more in your price range than Chaweng.
