i am going in to hospital for a gastric bypass on Saturday the 27th october. I have had to fight with the health autority to pay for this and have been battling for 4 years. Having got agreement they have now changed their mind on the funding of plastic surgery after weight loss. I would have to appeal to the PCT again. If they did not do it I would be looking at paying for it and am looking at options.
the surgery is very scary and carrys a high morbidity rate but i have no option and it is the only way I will improve the conditions that i have.
I don't consider myself to be vain but if and when I lose all the weight I would like creative surgery.
Being fit, mobile and able to enjoy Thailand to its full advantage is the thing that is keeping me going.
i have been told in no uncertain terms that if i do not have the by pass I do not have long to live.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Normal light heated service will be resumed as soon as possible.
Jackie

Have been following your travels and plans for a while now and am so upset to hear about your upcoming surgery. All the best for the 27th and for a quick recovery. Sounds like you have made the right decision. As for the "creative surgery", (love that!) go for it! Whatever makes you happy!
Cheers
Roslyn.

jax I know a lady who had gastric banding performed about six weeks ago andis going great guns--now that the weight has started to come down (after every diet known to man failed) she is on top of the world and happy and positive for the first time in years.
You are still a young woman love and deserve the health and vitality to enjoy your life to the full.Pity the beurocratic, number crunching, bean counters who work out the health funding don't see it quite so plainly.
Best of luck to you love hope everytiing goes well --keep us posted.
Love laurs

I dont eat like that all the time to have got fat. I wish I did.

Hi jax,
I saw this surgical procedure (removal of loose skin after dramatic weight loss) on Discovery channel last weekend - fantastic results.

To have this work done in Thailand, there are several private hospitals that possibly do this.
Bumrungrad Hospital (Sukhumvit Soi 3 has a skin centre and cosmetic/plastic surgery centre.
This is reported to be the top hospital in Bangkok - lots of their surgeons have US accreditation and they do all manner of things there. It actually looks like a flash hotel when you enter and you can see lots of foreigners there. They even have apartments where you can stay while recovering.
You can visit their website and trawl around for info on various procedures, get a quote, make an appointment.
I've had minor treatments there (injections into leg veins) and I'm thinking about some 'bodywork' for next year. If I do it, I'll go there.

Others that do plastic surgery are Yahnee Hospital (but don't know anything much about it) and Bangkok Hospital. There are probably heaps more too.
There's also one at Phuket - think it might be a branch of Bangkok Hospital.

I have a friend who's in severe pain with hip/back problems and needs a hip replacement but specialist has told her she needs to lose 40kg. before he will consider treatment.
I've tried to persuade her to have gastric bypass but so far she's not keen.
Please do post and give us progress reports - it might inspire her.

Hi again jax, I forgot the webaddress - the usual 3ws prefix then bumrungrad followed by the usual dot com.
Cheers,
kimbo

Default Good luck!

It will be fine but you do need something to focus on and I think many more years to have lots more holidays in Thailand is a pretty good one.

A work colleague had a similar procedure and it made a tremendous difference to his whole life.

Please ask Dave to put post op reports on here so as we will want to know how it went and it might be a while before you feel up to it.

I will be thinking of you and will raise a glass on Halloween as you won't be able to!
