Default Money matters, exchange rates & where

Can someone tell me what the AUD rate is in Thailand at the moment.

Also can you tell me what or where is the best place to change money, Banks ?, exchange shops ?, do they charge a commission and do they prefer certain $ value notes or notes in good condition only.

Any other relevant information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Colleen

Default Thai Baht to Australian Dollar

It's about 27 Baht to the Aus dollar at the moment.

Most of the big local banks charge very similar rates - and sometimes you find yourself marching up and down the street in the raging heat searching for a better rate, only to find that you've saved yourself a dollar or two in total!

From a security point of view, I always prefer to go to one of the big banks in a shopping centre, and actually physically go into the branch, rather than stand at a window on the street ... but that's just me. Having said that, I've never had a problem with the "window" banks either, but I just feel safer being inside!

Hotel cashiers offer the worst rates, so if you arrive at night and are forced to use them, just cash the bare minimum you'll need for that evening, and then to go a reputable bank the following day.

In the major shopping centres and tourist areas, banks are open all weekend (with slightly reduced hours).

I don't think the banks charge a commission - money changers and hotels do.

With regards to notes, I think anything from A$10 up is fine - that rule really only applies to US$.

Apart from that of course, there are ATMs everywhere - and I believe the exchange rate isn't too horrendous - great for emergencies or that last minute "must-have" purchase!

Enjoy your trip!
