Hello all,

I have my first visit to Thailand booked, arriving Thailand 9th May for 20 nights.

My only plan so far is to have a couple of nights in Bangkok then head down to Koh Tao Island to take a 4 day scuba diving course.

After that .. ?

Just wondered if anyone else is heading there around the same time and in the same situation ... travelling alone, first time or even been there before and would like to offer any advice on places to stay in bangkok?

After Koh Tao, I would recommend heading over to Koh Phangan. I'm not sure if you are looking for a party scene or just something quiet with great beaches? Phangan obviously has a reputation as a party island because of the famous full moon party that is held there, but there are many beaches on the Northern side of the island that are gorgeous and quiet if that is what you want.

Places to stay in Bangkok - if you are backpacking, Khao San Road. If not, there are thousands of hotels. I would recommend to stay somewhere in the center in Sukhumvit Road area close to a BTS ( sky train ) station so you can easily move around the city.
