Thumbs up Thailandn Help

Hi everyone,

i am travelling with my boyfriend in december, i am planning on staying for 3 weeks, and mainly relaxing in Koh samui. However i do want to visit Phuket and some of the best islands.

Can anyone tell me if they have done anything similar and if so how they did it?

I am still unsure as to what islands you can visit say from koh samui and Phuket as day trips and which may take longer and require overnight stays.

Thanks for your help x

The first thing to remember is that Phuket and Koh Samui are literally located in two different oceans. Phuket is in the Andaman Ocean located to the south-west of Thailand. Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand. If you are visiting Koh Samui, visiting other islands in the Gulf of Thailand is really easy, and cheap for that matter. At Koh Samui's Nathon Pier you can buy a ticket for the Haad Rin Queen ferry for around 300 Baht per person for a 45 minute boat ride to Koh Phangan's Haad Rin Pier. You can also contact the Lompharaya for their High speed catamaran to Koh Tao (this is an approximate 90 minute trip. I would actually recommend you to stay a night on any of these two island before returning to Koh Samui. Both have a lot to offer. A few hundred meters from Koh Tao is Koh Nang Yuan. This is a small island and you will not be able to stay here, but spending a day is amazing. Google it to see some pictures. From Samui, you can also arrange a day trip to the Ang Tong Marine Park. The park consist of more than 40 uninhabited scattered islands.

If you want to travel to Phuket from Samui, I suggest you fly. Both islands have an airport. Alternatively, put aside an entire day or more's travel by boat and car to get to Phuket from Samui.

If you are going to Phuket, you can arrange day trips or tranfers to island like Koh Phi Phi, visit Koh Yao Noi located in Phan Nga Bay or transfer from Phuket to Phi Phi and from Phi Phi to Krabi. Hope this helps. let me know if you need more detailed information.

Hi there! There is nothing wrong with Samui and Phuket but 3 weeks for those 2 islands only is a bit too long in my opinion, unless there is some specific activity that you want to do there - diving, kite surfing, rock climbing etc.

There are so many places you can visit in Thailand in 3 weeks, at a very laid back pace. If you let us here know what you are interested in, I'm sure we can provide some good suggestions!

ps. Agree with above poster, Koh Tao or Koh Phangan should be visited while you are in Samui area. Both really cool islands and easy to get to.
