Hi Laura, you did not read well the forum, this last week!

Go a bit lower and to "Phuket restaurants" thread!

I gave info about it. It is a fantastic place, expensive for Phuket, but cheap to Western standards for what you get.

Not only the athmosphere but also the food is worth mentioning, as it is very special, original Thai kitchen with a fushion touch!

You can pass buy 100 times and miss it!

It is located on the road karon-Phuket, Patrakroad. It is located in a small steep soi, between the gaz-station, same side, and the beginning of the climb towards Chalong.

Hi Laura,

Two more sleeps and then we're off. We've got a direct flight from Sydney to Phuket with Jetstar. We usually fly via Bangkok and stay a few days, but it was so painful on our return to Bangkok from Phuket last time we decided to try the new service with Jetstar. We are going directly to the Katathani for 10 nights and then 12 nights Merlin Beach Resort. I'm going to pack tonight and try to be ruthless and take very little but you know how it goes "oh I might just need 6 pairs of shoes"! I hope to only take enough that I can fit it in cabin luggage and take a suitcase for all the goodies I hope to buy. I suppose you had to pay top dollar for the Katathani in January. I've been a bit spoilt price wise always going around Sept, Oct. I usually go then because it's school holidays and my daughter who is a teacher can look after my dogs and she always goes away in January school holidays, as that is our summer here in Australia.
Anyway the excitement hasn't kicked in yet but I think it will once the packing begins!!
Thank you for all the advice that you have given to me. I'll let you know what I think about the Katathani, I'm sure that we will like it and I think the bonus will be that if it is too noisy with kids around the pool we can always move to the beach to relax, then everybody is happy.

Cheers
Michelle

Hi Laura,
You were absolutely right, we loved the Katathani and will visit it again. The junior suites were really comfortable even though they could probably do with a bit of renovating. The staff were very friendly and helpful, unlike the Merlin Beach Resort where we moved to next. It was our third trip to the Merlin and it was certainly our last, it provided us with the holiday from Hell, thank goodness for the Katathani and the professional and fantastic staff. We tried to change back to the Katathani from the Merlin but it was fully booked. Whilst we were at the Katathani we went to eat at Bella Vista, 3 doors up from Kata BBQ. It is situated on the cliff on Kata Noi beach. Really nice restaurant with great views, prices, food and service. We went to Surin beach and found a great restaurant called Pla which is owned by the same people who own the K hotel just off Bangla Rd. Both restaurants have wonderful food, good service with a smile and food at good prices. Look out for a waiter called Sascha at Pla, he speaks very good English which was is helpful if you want to order something that is not on the menu. He really looks after people and we actually met him when he was still working at Bella Vista. We loved the beach at Surin and I would like to stay for part of our holiday in that area next year. I'm Over Patong except for the Islander restaurant ( great roast dinners ) and the K Hotel restaurant. The new shopping centre, Jungcelon is nice to visit also. Has anyone any suggestions for a hotel in the Surin area. The Kamala Beach Resort looked okay, not flash but a nice position on the beach. Anyway except for the Merlin we had a great time but I still haven't got on the scales !! Off the the real world of work tomorrow.
Cheers
Michelle
