Default One way flight to thailand... allowed onto flight?

Hey,
How do you get around the airline company if they wont let you board your flight with only a one way ticket?
Will they charge you a stupid amount of money for a flight to a neighbouring country?
Or would it be best to buy a 30day before i get to Thailand?

Thanks

Some one way tickets cost around the same price as round trip. This is especially true on some full service airlines from America and Europe. You must have an approximate idea on when you will return home. If you intended to fly home from a different country in Asia a local flight to the airport you first arrived at may be cheaper than using 2 one way flights.

From what I understand, if the airlines accept you and Thailand objects the airline has to fly you out at their expense immediately.

If you are from one of the countries on this list you get a free 30 day Visa Exemption stamp in your passport. If you want to pay for a visa get a 60 day tourist visa through your nearest Thai embassy.

Why do you want a one way flight compared to a round trip if the prices are about the same? If your one-way is half the price of a normal round trip then it is your call. Flights between Thailand and nearby countries are cheap.

Yes, if from the mentioned countries the OP gets 30 days exempt, but official condition for that is flight ticket out of Thailand. To prevent problems: get a visa in advance, or get a flight ticket out of Thailand with departure within 30 days.

Cause Ill be travelling around SE Asia for 6 Months and then hopefully moving onto Oz. I plan on spending a month to start with in Thailand and then a month in Laos so i guess buying a flight onto Laos would be a good idea... Would buying it at the airport be a good idea or beforehand?

Sometimes they check for onward tickets but most often they do not. But if you look like one of those old hippies from 30 years ago they may look closer! You can also buy a train ticket to another country too. Check the prices for the flights.

You can also buy a train ticket to another country too. Check the prices for the flights. Once you are in Bangkok it is easy to purchase a flight to Laos. Or even a train ticket. Some train tickets you can get ahead of time when you are in your own country. I have never purchased train tickets ahead of time, never had to! Train tickets are cheap.

Maybe just having your visa stamp for Laos already in your passport will be good enough.

Hi, i was going to start a new thread but my question fits nicely into this one so here it goes. From what I've read on here (and elsewhere) if you have a visa you don't need to worry about proof of departure within that visa time (60 days for me). Is this true or is it just the case that's it's even more unlikely that they will ask for proof?

Also if the airline pulls me up on it will I be able to book a cheap flight/train there and then? I'm not sure which country I will visit after Thailand so don't want to commit to anything before.

Thanks

True, proof of departure is only for visa exempt entry.
