Default Jet lag and post holiday blues

Back down to earth with a bump, wedding, hols etc etc now got 24hrs before back in work.

Theres always that bit of me thats quite glad to be home but there's that gap between landing and getting into the swing of things again................ what do you guys do?

Despite what may seem quite negative (we did have a good time) trip reports felt really sad walking into town today and realising that 4 weeks had passed,

singha, laughs, sat watching sunset on balcony with a beer or two, eating out, no housework etc etc

Still think im a lucky fella, am happy, healthy and despite being completely skint! the both of us have the attitude of live for now.............

cheer me up guys!!!!

xxx

Default Wish you were nearer and I could give you a hug

I know that feeling - well. You also want to pass on how you felt about the holiday to everyone else. everyone says did you have a good holiday but they don't really want to know. All the time you are bursting with it.

Sorry not doing much to cheer you up am I

The only cure for me is to start planning the next one.

I miss the grandkids and want to get home sometimes to see them.
I often wish when I am in Thailand that i could have all my friends round me and then I could share it with them. You can't convey sounds sights and feelings the same can you?

You are starting on a new chapter now - new job ?

The summer is on it's way and that is always a good thing.

Come and stay with us for a weekend when we get back. We will cheer you both up - or get you so pis-merry that you will forget you were fed up.

Or sod it , book a flight and come back and to Samui with us.

Default Love your reports Chris!

Have followed your wedding and trip with great interest - and have loved your honest and humourous reports. I can totally sympathise with your Post Holiday Depression Syndrome ... it's a real letdown after months of planning and then actually being on holiday ... and the first few days back you are sort of in a "no man's land" looking at your watch at 9:00 am wondering if it's time for a glass of wine and a fish cake ... and expecting the masseur to knock on your bedroom door!

I was really interested to hear your views on Phuket as I was toying with the idea of going there in July but had decided against it, and your comments just confirm this. It really does sound quite ghastly, and it seems that unless you are somewhere amazing like the new Aman resort, it's sort of a Disneyland by the Sea full of all the types of people you go abroad to avoid!

We are now going to give Samui another try ... we went last year and had a bit of a disastrous time with accommodation and that sort of clouded our view of the island. We did move after one night, but I was so worried about trying to get our money back and whether or not we would be seriousy out of pocket (but must say Sawadee.com were excellent and refunded everything except the one night we stayed at that god-awful place) that I think I didn't allow myself to fully relax and enjoy it.

However, back in Melbourne, on reflection and afer several delicious bottles of icy cold NZ Sauvignon Blanc we decided it really wasn't as awful as we had thought (and in fact we had some very fond memories of it!), and we shoudl really give it another go! Phuket is definitely off the table!

I absolutely adore Bangkok - and go every year (two trips planned this year - in May and in July!). I love its chaos, and its incredible charm, and the amazing meeting of ancient and modern, eastern and western, and I think the Thai people are just so wonderful - it is one of my favourite cities in the world.

In May I have a long weekend planned - just a quick trip for shopping, food, R&R, warmth, and then two weeks in July/August - 3 days in Bangkok and then 9 on Samui - hopefully we will love it after last year's disappointment. At least we aren't going "blind" this year, and we'll know what to expect and we will have done more homework with regard to accommodation etc.

Keep up the great work Chris - your posts are such fun!

PS to Mark: New forum is wonderful, so much more user-friendly (or should that be user-friendlier?!)

Unhappy I have been back 3 months and I still have the blues

3 months and I still have the blues, hate being back and one of the things that keeps me happy is looking at this forum, how sad. I was looking at hotels in Thailand today coz someone left a Trailfinders mag around and I was pricing my next hol and I dont even know when it is.

Hi Jax,
The hotel we normally stay at is the Merlin Beach Resort at Tri Trang Beach just a few kms out of Patong. Would really like something in Samui with beach views from the balcony and prefer to be able to walk to bars and restaurants as that's the only thing I don't like about the Merlin, but it's not vital. I think the Merlin usually have a deal, stay 2 nights pay for 1 so I think that it costs something like $125AUD or 50 BP per night. We could probably stretch it a bit further if needed. We are planning to go low season, end of September till about mid October, maybe 19 -20 nights. As we haven't been to Samui before we would probably stay a week, then the rest in Phuket, it depends on which airline we fly as Jetstar, which I am considering because of the direct flights between Sydney & Phuket, don't fly this route everyday.Talk soon.
Michelle

Michelle. Have a look at sawadee and the reviews. The Amari is on the edge of Chewang so everything is walkable to. Sea views iffy unless right at front. you will get some idea though there are some lovely hotels.
The central is also a good hotel at the other end of chewang beach. Don't get confused with the central resort this is was out in the middle of nowhere.
There are some good places around chongmon and boput and they are easy to get to chewang that is lively.
i think that lamai has the nicer beach for swimming etc.
If you come accross any you like the look of let me know and i will tell you if I know anything about them.
