I have heard Major Cineplex is the most modern movie chain in Thailand. Is this true. If so do they show 3D movies in Bangkok? Where is the theater in Sukhumvit? What do tickets cost, are they a rip-off like in the West? Thanks

I don't use the movies in Bangkok but I have been by some of the places. I do go to movie theaters in Pattaya and the prices are pretty good. Roughly I have paid from around 70 baht to 120 baht for normal seats. They have student and senior discounts. Some theaters discount prices for matinees and some days of the week.
Some theaters have fancier seats at premium prices but cheaper than what you find in many Western countries. The movie theaters I have been to have been pretty good. I have used worse in other countries! Definitely cheaper than the U.S. Never saw a 3D movie in Thailand. The theaters I have gone to allow you to choose a seat ahead of time. Seats are numbered and match your ticket.
If Thai theater owners want Thai citizens to buy movie tickets they can't have the prices so high they can not afford it! I think movie tickets pretty cheap.
For an example of pricing, the new theater at Terminal 21 prices their 2 person "Sofa Sweet" at 400 baht off peak days and 500 baht peak days. That would be 200 and 250 per person, or between $6 ~ $7. Other seats are cheaper.
I was on the Skytrain in Bangkok the other day and looking at the route map. There was a Major Cineplex marked at Ekkamai, so this location is worth checking out OP. No idea if it shows 3D films but I expect it's likely they do and I expect the whole theatre to be ultra-modern and up-to-date if this is their flagship central Bangkok location.
