I'll be arriving in Bangkok in a few weeks and after recovering for a few days I'll want to getaway to somewhere more relaxing pretty sharpish. I gave Pattaya a fair chance last year and it wasn't my cup of tea at all, despite being in the family-friendly sanctity of the Woodlands Resort.
My first question is: is Jomtien any better? I've read pretty disparaging things about the place here on this forum, so I'm guessing no. How about Na Kluea? I've heard it's quite Germanic - I'd actually be quite happy to meet Germans (even if they are old men with mullets) as I can hone my language skills before heading over there in June for a few weeks. What's the beach like at Na Kluea? Is it much less "in your face" than the "Strip"? If so it sounds like somewhere I could spend a few days.
Hua Hin is an obvious alternative choice for an accessible Bangkok getaway, as is Kanchanaburi - I like both places, and will likely visit one or even both this time before I head south. What's Hua Hin's beach like? I have only seen the beach at Pran Buri.
Sorry for all the questions
