Bumping this post - any ideas? Andaman or Gulf side? What time of year is best for surfing in Thailand?

Phuket has pretty good surfing around September/October. The gulf side depends on the storms coming through the area - there are actually massive swells there at the moment.

Also check out this surf school in Rayong - it's not consistent but the guy that runs it is pretty good at posting updates

the only easy accessible area that i've ever noticed anything that might give you a 15 second ride is kata, and that's off season when a bit rough. the gulf side, non island, i've never noticed anything worthy of putting a board in, even off season and rough.

i wouldn't even consider thailand for surfing, or i'm missing something. definitely would bother bringing a board. if any surfing, not matter how little, there will be someone to help relieve you of your baht, waves or not.
