Default How soon to book flights from Bangkok - Ko Samui for Christmas?

Hi folks,
We're booked into Ko Phangan for 22nd Dec, staying until 2nd Jan.

How soon should we book flights from Bangkok to Ko Samui? I fear they could book out.

Second question, can anyone recommend a particular Airway? Or a website where we'd get best prices. We're looking at budget flights as it isin't exactly long-haul!

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Bangkok-Samui is the priciest domestic route in Thailand. Bangkok Airways own the airport on Samui and for several years had a monopoly on flights. Thai Airways have since started flights too (back in 2008) but they have to pay Bangkok Airways' airport fees and so they are not much of a competition.

In terms of when to book... yesterday is my answer! They work on the budget airline model so the cheapest tickets go first, then you're left with the pricier ones.

Go to Bangkok Airways' website and I expect you might go white at the prices. An alternative - a bit more pesky, but should be cheaper - is to fly to Surat Thani on the mainland with Air Asia and then get a bus/ferry combo to the island. More of a pain but less painful on the wallet.

Hope that helps!
Steve
