Default Full Moon Party

Has anyone attended the Full Moon Party?

My fiance and I were planning on going, however a friend of mine that lives in Oz emailed me this....

"There has been documentaries on tv about them and it's meant to be awful, because there is no one on the island apart from people running it and on drugs and you can't get off.... the documentary we watched was about two girls that went and wanted off... people were just havin sex anywhere etc.. and they paid to get someone to take them off on a boat and they died... so just be careful huni...'

Sounds quite dodge, so just wondering if anyone has been recently, or has any suggestion to an alternative venue(s) we can attend?

Thanks
Serendipity

Hi Serendipity

I haven't been to the full moon parties although some younger family relatives went last year and basically indicated once was enough and I have some other friends who have been several years ago. My understanding is that originally they were good fun but over a period of time have turned into drunken affairs with cheap grog and dangerously overloaded boats taking people there and bringing them back home. If thats the kind of scene you like then it might be appealing to you. I think life's too short to be going there, but thats just my view. There are heaps of nightclubs in Koh Samui and in BKK where you can chill out and have fun without the hassles of drunks throwing up all over you.

No, it is not that dodgy. You can make a documentary about anything and make it look dodgy. It has to be dodgy, otherwise it would not be sold and aired, so no money would be made.

Just take normal precautions and don't use drugs, like the vast majority does not do drugs, and you'll be fine.

Last time I was at one, it was fine, but it is a bunch of 18-20 year old drunks. I definitely don't think that it's a 'must do' as it used to be advertised....but like Steven said, just be sensible and you will be fine. I am sure that anytime you get 10,000 people in a small place with alcohol and drugs involved, dodgy things will happen.

If you do go, I would definitely suggest staying on Koh Phangan for it because I would not recommend taking a boat.
