Default Thai Silk By the metre

Where is the best place please to purchase Thai Silk for curtains. How much would you expect to pay per metre and are there different types of quality. Was thinking of going to the big weekend market in Bangkok would this be the best place to buy. Any guidance would be gratefully received.

The back stalls of the Pratunam Market - in of course the Pratunam area of Bangkok - is reputed to be the best place for bulk purchases.

We're from Singapore and traveled to Thailand to buy silk for curtains.
We found amazing deals (my wife barters extremely hard so don't give up easily) on the main street of PratuNam (watergate), no need to go into the side streets, on the main road they have some great places.
Yeah it's a bit touristic and the beginning prices are pretty high but don't be afraid to push them down. Know what you want to pay for them beforehand, and give them the price, instead of letting them tell you the price :)

There are many grades of silk (that are not from Thailand & mass produced cheaply elsewhere), if you are after top quality silk by the metre then have a look at the Jim Thompson Factory Outlet at Soi Sukhumvit 93, about a 20minute drive (depending on traffic) from the main Bangkok area. 5 floors of good bargains, the first floor is all top quality Thai silk by the metre. Fantastic place!

Another voice for Pratunam market, Chatuchak market is interesting as well. Actually there is a big list of Bangkok wholesale markets, most of them have silk in their stalls.
