After our first taste of Phuket in July we are now planning to return probably between Jan and April to the kata Beach area.Have been told that the weather is good then(No Lumpy boat trips lol) any suggestions

The weather should be good but it gets very hot around March and April.
Don't forget there's Songkran mid-April ...it helps to cool things down because people chuck water at each other for at least three days....everyone walks around in soaking clothes. It's also a very busy time because most Thais are on holiday then too.

The best place to minimize spinal injury on a speedboat is right at the back near the outboard engine.

the weather would still be very good and all the hotels will likely have specials (like 2 for 1's using their low season rates to start with, so you can get 1/2 the low season rate). May is the best time to go to Phuket IMHO.
