Default Laura

Hi Laura,

Thanks for the tip about the reggae bar, might check it out but probably give it a miss. I like to know what something is going to cost me before I order it and I don't like the thought of people checking me out to see what they can steal from me. It's pretty hard to relax when you think you are an obvious target, especially if the management is not looking out for you. I always try to be sensible but I guess we can all let out guard slip and unfortunately sometimes there are people just waiting to pounce!! Would definitely have been upsetting for you, I hope that you didn't lose too much.

How have you found the shopping in Kata in comparison to Patong ?
Cheers
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Just got home from work!..

The shopping in Patong is way better than in Kata. Prices are cheaper and lots more variety, however if you were unable to get into patong, you could easily shop in Kata but you have much more choice in patong.
Even after what happened with us in the reggae bar, we still went again the following year to show my sister. The views are stunning over the top of katathani and to the sea. Its really great to sit out on the wooden handmade seating area over the jungle just having a drink and admiring the views, great at sunset time, however if you get queesy at heights - dont look down!!

Just keep tight hold of your purse!, we believe the night mark had his wallet stolen, there were to rasta type thais sitting behind us, they looked like they were on drugs and spaced out! I really dont blame the place or the management, just unfortunate these men were there at the time. The management took us home on the back of thier bikes cos we no longer had money to pay the tuk tuk, so not all bad there i suppose.

Hi Michelle,

The Reggae style places that Laura and I are talking about are 2 different places.
She is talking about a group of restaraunts that are on the way to viewpoint south of Kata, I am talking about a place in Kata that plays lots of reggae music and is next to Kata Mamas and basically on the beach.
We normally hire a jeep and it would take about 5 mins toLaura's Reggae place up a very steep hill. From memmory though, we ordered off a menu that had prices and even though there was some very stoned looking people there, we didn't feel threatened and the view is to die for. It is a great place to watch the sunset and have a cocktail, you feel like you are in a big tree house hanging off the cliff. The tuk tuk drivers will know where it is but to give you a basic idea, when you exit the Kata Thani and turn left towards Kata, you will go up a steep hill, on theway down that hill you will walk past many shops and restaraunts on the way to the Kata Beach Resort, half way down, you will see a very steep road to the right, follow that for a few kilometres and you will see the group of restaraunts on the right hand side. I highly recommend going there. If you send me a personal message with your email address I will send you some Photo's (files are too big to send to this site)

What Shanek says is absolutely...true!

I on the hand, had never problems on the beach there, I don't eat at mama's, the one closer to Reggae bar, or Rasta, is better. But not THAT friendly always! But THEY do have a list, and the bill always have been right! Nevertheless, maybe the best place to eat Thai food in Kata, certainly on the beach.

But we on the other hand heard nasty stories about the one "up the hill "! There I heard from locals, that many wallets were stolen.
