Many Thais will speak serviceable English. Plus, many are very good at non-verbal communication.

Most of the Thai people you will have to deal with will know enough English to understand what you want. Sometimes they call over a friend to help translate.

Most traffic signs in tourist type areas are in English and Thai. Many store signs are in English. Menus are often in English and sometimes even other languages too.

A small English to Thai dictionary won't cost that much in Thailand (Bookazine or Asia Books but found in many places) will be helpful for when you need something a little more unique.
