Hi everyone,

Can anyone suggest a shop to have reading glasses made in Phuket and roughly what price would I have to pay ?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Michelle,

I have read your post and am looking forward to some response as I would also like to have prescription glasses made in Phuket. I have searched the forum and all I can find are posts about glasses in Bangkok.

Default Glasses

Hi Kim,

I was looking forward to a response also !! I find it hard to believe that not one person who reads this forum, has not had glasses made in Phuket.

I am going in September, if that is before you go, I will message you and give you details if I have glasses made.

Cheers

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I am going next Wednesday 8 August until 23 August so I will message you if I have success with an optician. Where are you staying - I have booked us for six nights at Baan Yin Dee and as yet haven't booked the rest of the accommodation. We were looking at Impiana but I notice now it is fully booked.

Cheers
Kim

Hi Kim,

It would be great if you messaged me about the glasses.

We are going on the 26th September and staying at the Katathani for 10 nights and then 12 nights at the Merlin Beach Resort. We have stayed at the Merlin twice before and we really like it despite its isolation but we thought we'd like to try a new place. We decided to hedge our bets by still staying some of the time at the Merlin in case we didn't like the Katathani. I looked at the rooms at the Impiana and loved the location but the rooms smelt really mouldy and that turned me off. We considered staying at the Baan Yin Dee and the lady we hire our driver from was working there last year. If you need a reliable driver let me know as we were very happy with the man who drove us. They charged us about $35AUD for an 8 hour day and you could go anywhere you wanted and Chort would just wait for us, always with a big smile, unlike the other driver we had who just wanted us to hurry and even came looking for us inside a restaurant to give us the hurry up even though we were still entitled to another hour or so hire.
I hope you have a great time and I'd love to know what you think about the Baan Yin Dee. While you're there if you want some nice seafood try The Tipsy Prawn, down an arcade next to Subway on the Beach road. The owner Mal, an Aussie will order fresh prawns or whatever you want from the markets, if you tell him the day before. It's not a flash restaurant but nice atmosphere and right on the beach.

Regards

Michelle

I got reading glasses made up in Phuket last year (have them on as I type) they cost me about $70 most were more expensive.
I must say although the staff were very nice and the glasses were made up the same day but I didn't think much of their so called eye test... it was very ordinary. I sat down in the shop on a typing chair and she tried a few lenses to see if I could see lol ... she also checked my other glasses and basically my new ones are a tad stronger than my old ones (which wasn't and still isn't necessary).
I bought mine around the back of the Holiday Inn... turn left out of the Busakorn Wing and about 100 metres on the right.
Have a great trip.
Cheers Geri

Thanks Geri. I will go round and have a look. I have a script for me and one for my mum. There are lots of Optiks in Indo but I didn't notice any during my first visit to Phuket last year - must remember to take more notice of stuff!

Thanks again.

Smile Glasses in Patong

We didnt have glasses made but my husband lost one of the little screws in the arm and we went to Top Charoen Optical and they fixed it free.I have Arnnets sunglasses which I love but they had quite alot of scratches on the lense the girl said she could put new lenses the same quality 15au dollars and they are great now.The shop is about halfway between Jung Ceylon center and Baumanburi hotel on the same side of the road .There are lots of opticians though I think there's another Charoen shop in Bangala road.Have a great holiday.

Hi Joy,

Thank you so much for the info. I have an old pair of sunnies that were very expensive and I have recently put a big scrape on them. I might get new lenses in them in Phuket and keep them for a second pair in the car and have a look for a new pair in Phuket. Did you notice if designer sunnies were much cheaper than home ?

Cheers

Michelle
