Default Travelling with a medical condition

Hey all,

I'm off on a solo trip to NZ, Oz and SE Asia next month.

I have a bad, and potentially life threatening allergy to peanuts so travelling alone is quite a daunting thought – especially in non-English speaking countries.

I have always had a necklace that carries my allergy information but I fear people won’t think to look should the worst happen.

I have just ordered a load of bracelets from Mediband that seem perfect for travelling as they’re cheap, look hardwearing and most importantly, they’re eye catching.

Has anyone else had experience of travelling with a serious medical condition? Would love to hear your advice and experiences. What precations did you take?

Cheers

: )

Peanuts are used in several Thai dishes like the very common 'som tam' / pappaya salat, so be very careful to make sure what is in your food.

Practice this phrase until you have it word perfect:

Chan (I am) phae (allergic to) tour (nuts).

Phonetic pronunciation: Ch-a-r-n pay-e tour (in descending tone)

Easy for you to say!

I'd print it out. allergies

Unfortunately both our suggestion are only good in Thailand. You're on your own in Oz and New Zealand!

Therefore, heading for Down Under, he will need two new languages. "Strine" for Oz and "mixed vowels dialect" for "Nul Zulund".
