Default staying in Chaweng Noi

A number of months ago I sought some advice re places to stay in Koh Samui and the forum was most helpful with suggestions, my problem now is that the wedding party are all staying in Chaweng Noi and I am a bit concerned that this may be a bit isolated as I thought we would be staying in either Chaweng beach or Lamai beach. Question is it easy to reach Chaweng or Lamai without paying over the odds for taxis every night that we are not hanging around the hotels in Chaweng Noi?.
Regards.

PS I hav'nt made a booking yet at the hotel in Chaweng Noi.

I would love to say no.

But the fact is you will pay over the odds because you are a tourist on samui plain and simple.

If it was mainland Thailand the answer would be no.

Kirkie,

Paying "over the odds" wont break the bank. We generally hire a car but on the odd big night out when we stayed at Choeng Mon last year, it was 200 baht to Chaweng. This is further than Chaweng Noi but even if you paid the same, $8 bucks isn't too bad in a Songteuw that will hold 6 people. Dont sweat it.

Where are you staying?

I just read the rest of your post that stated that you hadn't booked yet.

Chaweng Noi is a great spot. I would much rather stay there and commute in than stay in the very busy central Chaweng. There are plenty of bars there and the southern end of Chaweng is not too far to walk to. Even the main entertainment district around soi Green Mango could be accessed on foot if you are not in a hurry.

Lamai is a bit further, but for a first visit, you will probably want to spend most of your time in Chaweng and Chaweng Noi.

Default Chaweng noi

Again Shanek, you have been most helpful, after spending buckets of money in Turkey and the Greek islands for the last two months I am going to have to be careful with the old readys in KS. for that reason I think I should book Samui first house, your earlier suggestion as from what I can deduce it is not too far from where the wedding party are staying which is the Imperial samui (in Chaweng Noi) I estimate this would only be approx 600 mts , please let me know if you can if this is an accurate estimation.
Again many thanks

Yes Kirkie, the Samui First House would only be a short distance away from the Imperial Samui but it is not exactly in the middle of all the action either. You can walk from there to anything that Chaweng has to offer but it will still be a longish stroll to the centre. I am not sure that staying there would achieve what you want.
