Default safes in hotels

Hi I am travelling to thailand next month and dont reallly want to have to take my passport out with me every day.

How safe are the hotel safes?
I am staying in the novotel in bangkok and patong beach so I would guess it would have to be a safe hotel.

am I correct ?

thankyou in advance for your help

Novotel is part of the huge Accor group. It will be as safe as safe gets.

I have stayed in a lot of cheap hotels in Thailand and have never had anything stolen from a safety box. If you get a key for a safety box don't leave it out where someone can use it. You should be okay but carry a photo copy of your passport with you when you are out. You will need a passport if you intend to cash a travelers check or even sometimes when you purchase a plane ticket.

You should have bags or suitcases that you can lock up too. Your greatest chance of having something stolen from your hotel room is by a guest you may have visiting you.

Have a nice trip.

Stayed at the Novotel , Siam Square a couple of years ago and some how managed to lock it , call to front desk they said they would get it sorted but would not be straight away as duty manager was out/at dinner and he was the only one with access to master key to unlock , was told that even the GM could not access unlock safe !!!!!
Excuse the pun but it shows how safe the safe is .
