| | My thoughts on Hua Hin I really like Hua Hin. It has a nice feel to it. Not so sleazy as the King has a holiday home here and also bans touts too. Although the tailors will still ask you, they are not hassley like other parts of Thailand.
Excellent variety of restaurants. Couple of night markets. Lovely train station (even the Orient Express comes through). Great golf courses.
We booked a private apartment for our month there. But if I was to book a hotel I would choose the Hyatt. It's about 5km's out from the centre of Hua Hin, but it's easy getting in and out. Either by baht bus, or private tuk tuk (100baht) and about 5 mins.
The hotel has a brilliant swimming pool, lots of private places if you want quiet time. It's beach front. Not a brilliant beach, but not a bad beach. Nice walking .. you could walk to Monkey Mountain. They have horses aswell you can hire by half hour or hour.
Another nice hotel selection would be The Sofitel. The Hilton is another choice aswell, but it's right in the centre (which may be a plus or minus to you ... we actually like to be out from the centre of any city) pool looked nice but the beach is better at the Hyatt ... it's really up to you with what is your priorities.
There are plenty of massage places.
The beaches are ok. Nothing like on the Andaman side, but heaps better than Pattaya.
We really enjoyed our time here and it's a place I would go back to again.
If you are interested, I do know of a nice 2 bedroom apartment that our friends stayed in. It's right next to the Hyatt, beachfront. Excellent swimming pool ... about 200+ metres long!!!
Happy to answer any more questions. |

Really enjoyed your reply Denise, have been wanting to go there for ages and spend some time there. Like the Hyatt but the idea of an apartment you were talking about sounds even better. Is it possible you could get me info about the apartment that would be great.
Thanks Gar

We Stayed at the Marriott Hua Hin in 2002 and had a great time. Not a great deal of shopping but nice restaraunts and a really nice friendly feel. The beach is a city beach rather than a tropical Island beach , but still fine to swim in and the sand quality was still nice. The Hilton is the only hotel stumbling distance from the majority of restaraunts, but the Tuk-Tuks are plentyful and cheap. It was only 50 baht back then from the Marriott to the centre of town and the walk would be no more than 15 min. The Hyatt seemed to be a bit nicer but it was a bit further out and the Sofitel looked magnificent , was closer to town, but a bit out of our budget. If we had a choice I think the Sofitel would be the pick.
If you play golf, then take your clubs as the courses are plentiful and cheaper than other resort centres. There was also an old pier in town that housed many seafood restaraunts, and dining there was a highlight of our trip.
If you want some photos, send your email to my message box and I will post them to you. I would proberbly go there again, but would stop over in Bangkok first to get my shopping fix.And dont expect too much nightlife as most bars close down by 2pm. (late enough for me)

| | We stayed
at the Anantara Hua Hin last year and loved it. It's about 3km out of town but an easy taxi ride in and the resort runs a free shuttle service. The grounds of this hotel are gorgeous and the staff very friendly. The night market in town is good and we found prices on par with Bkk, and a great choice of restaurants around town. We loved the seafood restaurants on the jetties. The beach is ok, not like the islands, but clean and you don't get hassled. We then got a cab up to Bangkok which was quite a pleasant 3 hour drive. We are planning to go back there again next year as it was such a relaxing holiday.

| | Marriott Again, these are my thoughts only. But my husband parents stayed at the Marriott. The lobby area is beautiful and it's in a great location. But the pool is quite small for the size of hotel. If you like to lounge by the pool, there can be a shortage of beds. Also, I thought the rooms were a bit small and bathrooms on the old side.
(Based on visiting the hotel 2004).
Another good side to check out is Ken Diamond for information on Hua Hin.
We did a side trip while in Hua Hin to Kanchanburi and did the River Kwai thing. Not a bad run from Hua Hin to this area. We stayed the night there, but said we would do it again but stay an extra night. There is a lot to see in Kanchanburi.
Good Luck. Half the fun of going to Thailand is all the planning and research.
We are off on 20th July. Heading to Malaysia first for 11 nights (KL and Langkawi), then Pattaya for a month. CAN'T WAIT ................... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
