I have done that trip to Samui so many times from the UK I know how exhausting it can be. I could not imagine another overnight on the top. I am older than you though. Don't forget that if you want to get the most out of the full moon you need to be in good feckle before it starts.
You may not be aware that if you are staying on phangnan for the full moon most places wont take bookings for less than 3 nights at that time.
Samui is a good place to stay for the night.

Thanks for all the advice. So it seams pretty much everyone is advising to fly to Samui rather than get the sleeper train - I guess you must be saying that for a reason!
I've already booked the train but I could cancel it with a 20% charge and go for a flight instead, plus acommodation in Samui. If I'm going to do this then I really want to sort it out today if possible.
As my flight should land at 1545, I assume I should have enough time to get the 1800 flight to Samui? Can anyone recommend somewhere reasonably priced to stay in Samui that is easy enough to get to where the Ferry to Phangan leaves? (big buddha beach?)
I assume there won't be a problem getting a boat to Phangan the day before Full Moon if it's not booked in advance?
I have acommodation in Phangan sorted already by the way.

Thanks

So I've managed to book the flight so that's sorted. It seems Secret Garden is fully booked so I'm looking for an alternative. Any suggestions anyone? Or should I just leave it til I arrive in Ko Samui at about 9pm on Sat? I'd prefer to have it booked in advance for peace of mind really.

If you prefer to be in chewang. It's not far from Airport or ferry. You will then be in the middle of the action. Try AKW guest house check it out on sawadee. Its a boutique guest house really quirky with some nice touches. Sawadee has loads of info on accommodation plus some reviews. If you see something you fancy post and I can probably tell you where it is and whats around.
Another is the wave. There is also a new place on the beach road looks ok can't remember the name
If you do stay in chewang check out the beach scene at night.

Cheers!

I've booked a night at Akwa so I'm now all sorted.
I'll let you know how it all goes when I'm back!
