Default Hotels in Bangkok are quiet

G'day all,

I have just arrrived back from Bangkok today after nearly three weeks in "Crazy Town".

Whilst there, an article in The Bangkok Post stated amongst other things, that arrivals for the month of December were up 45% compared with the previous December.

Well, they must all have been short term visitors, because the hotels I visited had patronage numbers around 50-60%, whereas normally at this time of the year they are around 75-85% as it is the "high" season.

I spoke to a British couple who booked through Agoda and they got an executive room at the Millennium Hilton with all the trimmings (breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails etc) for a 50% discount on the normal price.

So for those of you planning to travel to Bangkok in particular, in the next few months, it would pay you to have a look at the Agoda site and a few others booking sites as most of the hotels are now into heavy discounting.

Finally, there has been no price increase this year for Thailand's hotels, so it is a "buyers" or "visitors" market.

The accommodation bargains are there for the taking at the present time.

On another note, I will post some dining reviews sometime over the next week or so after I have sorted things out here.
