Default Duty free

With the new restrictions on taking liquids on board flights, how do we manage to buy duty free alcohol at Sydney airport when flying to Phuket? Thanks to anyone who can give me this info. Would hate to go without my duty free grog !!

Am not absoutley sure but I think if it --as in alcihol--is bought on the other side of security check i.e departure lounge it is o.k to take onboard.I would ring the airport and get a definate on the protocol.
cheers laurs

Default Duty Free

Just returned from 3 weeks in LOS today. This may not answer your question, but is important.

One guy we met over there this time was caught taking excess cigarettes into Thailand on his first visit. He usually went to Maldives, where it is the norm to take your fortnights supply with you, but getting caught with over the Thai limit got him a trip in a cop car across Bangkok to a police staion and landed him a £260 fine. Another couple caught at the same time with Cigarettes and alcohol got a much larger fine. All for quite an innocent mistake - neither were hardcore traffickers.

Moral of the story - know the limits and don't exceed them.
p.s. I believe that the limit is 200 cigs and 1L alcohol each.

Default singapore experience

Can't speak for Sydney airport but flying out of Singapore Changi Airport, duty-free purchases come in specially sealed bags that you can bring on board, no problem.

I've just found this on the new BKK airport website. Hope it helps.

Yes, I'm happy to comply with the regulations re. liquids and gels. I'll just put such things in my case now instead of my cabin baggage as I used to do.
BUT.......... where does that leave us re. duty-free purchases when departing Bangkok? Some airports have duty-free stores on the other side of checkpoints. But if I remember correctly, at Suvarnabhumi, duty free is BEFORE these. Can't imagine King Power has taken this lying down..... it will all but destroy their business.

I'm travelling to Bangkok and onto Australlia in a couple of weeks and want to know if I'll be able to buy alcohol/perfume at duty free.

So, does anyone on here know what the situation is re. taking duty-free Liquids and Gels OUT of Bangkok ?
Thanks

Default bankok to Australia

You are right there is no duty free shop after immigration in Bankok unlike Sydney and the officials are strict I lost my toothpaste because the tube was too large even though it was almost empty.they also went through our carry on bags after they had been xrayed. We bought our duty free when we arrived back in Sydney before passport controll,we arrived back 22June so this is upto date. The problem going to Phuket is if you change flights you cant take any containers over 100mls onto the next plane. We stayed in Bankok 4days so just put our duty free from Sydney in our checked in luggage when we went on to Phuket.

Default Duty free alcohol

Hi Joy,

I am flying direct from Sydney to Phuket. I know that I can buy the duty free on return in Sydney but I don't know how I take it with me from Sydney to Phuket.

Thanks for any info.
