| | Hotel in Kanchanaburi
Wow, I haven't been on this forum in some time cause I haven't been back to Thailand for 5 years but we may be planning a trip for next year. I loved the old forum, I cannot believe how quiet this one is. Hopefully I can still find the answers to my questions here as we may be planning a trip for Feb 2011.
Thailand is our favourite place to vist so far. We have been a couple of times and cannot wait to go back.
Last time we were there, one of the places we stayed and enjoyed very much was Little Creek Hideaway Valley in Kanchanaburi. They used to have their own website but I cannot find it any longer. We would love to stay there again but don't know if it is still there. We booked it through the old forum as it was one of the ones that Mark had recommended. (And I know why, it was excellent). Does anyone know if this place is still around?
Thanks in advance for any help.
And it is good to be back! |

| Valhalla,
A warm welcome back to the forum. There are various reasons why this forum is a shadow of its former self, not least the increased competition in the travel forum niche. I won't go into them all in detail, but rest assured as the new owner of this site (I took over the reins from Mark in October 2009) the aim is to re-establish this forum as a lively and informative place to discuss Thailand and the surrounding countries of Asia. In those few months, and with the assistance of many loyal members from back in the old days, the forum has increased its number of active members by roughly five-fold. Things have been quieter in the last week or so, but I believe we're heading in the right direction overall.
Please also check out our new competition to encourage regular posting - you can walk away with $180 which should pay for a few nights in Kanchanaburi
Regarding the Little Creek Hideaway Valley, it looks like they didn't renew their website I can find a review from April 2009, but nothing more recent. I would suggest giving them a call - use a dialling code for cheap calls to Thailand - their phone number is on this old archived copy of their website.
Hope that helps - someone else may have more up-to-date info on the resort.
cheerio
Steve

we have such fond memories of our stay there. quiet, peaceful. it was wonderful. Plenty to do, or just engage in nothing at all but peace and quiet if that's what you want.

Well, many things have changed during the plast five years, but Kanchanaburi is still a very wonderful city to spend some time. Since you have been here before you already know about the nice guesthouses like Jolly Frog, Sugar Cane, Sam's House and others in the city. Little Creek is still here, but as you know it's located a bit outside the city, and I send you a link to their website: Littel Creek Hideaway Valley Kanchanaburi
I also send you a link to another site with a lot of information about places to stay, places to go, and many other informations for you to check out: Kanchanaburi-info.com: destination guide to Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand

Have you tried the Oriental Kwai Resort? It is one of the best places I have ever stayed at in Thailand or for that matter anywhere. They have a web address, just Google Oriental Kwai Resort. They don't take deposits, because they know that 99% of their visitors will turn up on the booked date of arrival. On tripadvisor they received the #1 award for all hotels in Thailand - some recommendation. And it is reasonably priced as well.

Hello everyone, well, a friend of mine phoned the little creek and was told the resort closed down. On Kanchanaburi Thailande however you seem still to be able to make an online booking so I would not jump to any conclusions yet but it doesn´t look good to me. The website is down, a bad sign, and it would not be a surprise to me if Little Creek went bankrupt as it was badly managed and losing money. Last time I was there the owners had built a new fun park in the tourist center on the riverside, which was a total failure and never even opened, as I have heard. I walked the site myself which looked ghostly and ridiculous.
The Little Creek however was a beautiful place. It had a steady stream of guests too, and surely with reduced staff , some changes, a different location for the ant ridden restaurant area for example, and new management it would be a cash maker. Its closure is a real disaster. It was the only cheap resort away from the noisy river and unique in its style. Anybody interested in re starting it up as partner with me? Lots of dutch people run successful guesthouses and resorts in Asia and I am sure it will be a tremendous success with the right partners. Interested? Send me an email !

| | little creek vs orientalkwai
Hi Emdee I checked orientalkwai but they charge 3000 baht per night, that exactly why the Little Creek was so great as if offered spacious bungalows with clean showers in bright colors for only 200 Baht per night, and as such is irreplaceable. Also the resort was so big you could always find a cottage away from the others so you dont hear people brushing their teeth or look at them sunbathing when you walk out of your room in the morning. My god I miss Litle Creek. Sometimes I went straight from BKK Airport to Kan , rent a bike with one of the mamas ,turn right at the railway tracks, and took that beautiful winding road to the Little Creek, and never went to any other place anymore.
Somebody must reopen this place it has great potential.
Remember the old owners did not even use their website to advertise and promote the resort.....who will join me to stop it from rotting away further and further?
