Default American Citizen visa help

Hey
I came to thailand this month on a walk-in visa (30 days), and I've really enjoyed it so far. I'd really like to stay here longer (until the middle of may preferably), but I haven't really been able to figure out the visa system here to see if its possible and what I could do.

Anyone more familiar with this that can help me out?

Thanks!

You'll have to leave the country and apply for a visa.

As a "tourist" you can get 60 days, which I believe can be extended for 30 more.

Probably one of the better places to go would be Vientiane in Laos where you should be able to get a double entry tourist visa which would give you 60 days in country and then extend that at immigration then go out of the countryand return on your second entry for a further 60 days.
You can either fly there or go by coach with a visa company.

hmm thanks

I'm going to be in chang mai from tomorrow until the currently scheduled end of my trip, the 15th of this month. Is there a place closer than Vientiane wherein I can apply for the tourist visa?

How long does it take to get the tourist visa? Is it a same-day/2 hour rubber stamp type thing?

Or is it just very very highly recommended that I look for a visa company? Do any of them work out of Chang Mai and come recommended?

Thanks again!

Thumbs up

Being in the north Vientiane is your nearest viable place to get sorted for a visa. It always used to take a few days - although my recollection stretches several years back now. Why not make a trip of it and experience a bit of Laos?

Depending on the time of day,A.M. is best, I believe you can submit your paperwork one day and collect your visa the following day in Vientiane.

a current report of vientiane visa run. apply, then return next day to pick up after 1pm. 2 day affair, which is about all the time you need to see vientiane. and don't forget to pick up some cigs, if you smoke, and a bottle of your favorite beverage, as available, and cheaper than thai prices, such as bailey's at half price.

they presently are NOT issuing dual entry visa. this a tourist visa, as poster asked, and was refused. first time i've heard that, a new policy i believe. probably due to the increased traffic/work imposed on them, since malaysia and cambodia are restricting there issuing of visa, and people are heading to vientiane, as it used to be friendly and more accommodating. as always, any given officer on any given day, may process it differently. that should be extendable for 30 days at any immigration office in thailand.

thanks for the info. what's happening is I ended up signing up for a language course at chiang mai university, and they will be sending me a letter which I will use to acquire a student visa. I'm currently waiting for that e-mail in Vientiane..

If its any use, I can come back and post how it went.

So here in Vientiane I received a Non-Immigrant, ED visa with Single entry (DAMN IT) for 2,000 baht. Thaivisa.com and the university say that this visa is good for 1 year.

Now the problem is that I need multiple entries.. any advice?
