If only for the taste, I would use bottled.

Besides, if there are impurities, the boiling time required for purification is longer than most hot pots or coffee makers run.

We always use bottled and we buy the big bottles from the supermarket. We also use it for brushing our teeth.
Keep your mouth shut under the shower as well.
following this we have never been unwell...... touch wood....oh apart from me getting pneumonia but that was nothing to do with the water LOL

The typically backpacker's method is to avoid the shower altogether!

If you're boiling water, it will kill any beasties floating in it making it safe to drink. But as Curt says, your tea/coffee will taste nicer with bottled water - and at 15-20 Baht per big bottle, it's not a particularly extravagant measure either

I always scrubbed me gnashers with tap water in Thailand and never got ill from it, but then again I was a backpacker...

Hey! I think the skanky backpackers reeking of BO and cheese-ridden manky dreadlocks are in the minority... only met a few of those, and steered well clear of the buggers as soon as I caught a whiff!
