LEAVE IT HOME.

Unless he really wants to drag an expensive anchor around.

I took mine on our 10 week trip. It was a waste of time some of the hotels that had wi fi charged a fortune for it.
there are so many internet places at around 1 baht a minute that it is not worth it.
they are heavy and a liability.
My advice would be leave it at home.

I've taken mine every time we have gone. Stayed at a Guest House in Bangkok, Hua Hin and Phuket and never had a issue with theft. Traveling through Airport Security was sort of a pain. This yr I am taking a netbook which will fit in safe.

I know I'm a bit late to the discussion, but here's my two cents for the day:

Depends on what you plan on using it for. If it's just to check email and do the occasional bit of research or route planning, then leave it at home. Net cafes can be found easily and on the cheap.

If you work remotely, maintain a blog, plan on editing photos/video on road then you may want to take it with you.

Your usage will dictate your need.

We travel with a 10" netbook all the time. So handy for checking accommodation, safe banking, emailing, skype etc. Always just leave it inthe room and never had a problem.

All this coming from poolside in Bali as I type :)

Oh... We do use it for business also, life is good on the road.
