Default Where to stay?

Hi, Me and my girlfriend are visiting Thailand for 4 months in February mainly just for a 4 month chill out and we are looking for the best place where we can live cheaply where we can just chill at a pool or beach every day...We were looking at Hua Hin but have been told that accomodation can be quite expensive here compared to other places....is that true?

We dont want somewhere too remote though but at the same time are not bothered about it being too lively

Thanks to anyone who can help

There are parts of pattaya where it is cheap to rent condos. You can rent places on any of the islands as well if you are doing a longer let like that.
are you thinking of staying put for that time or are you going to move around.
Once you get to may you are in low season so prices go down.
Koh Lanta is nice and has a mix of some bars etc but more local type things.
if you rent one place for 4 months you should get a good deal.

Kanchanaburi and Ayutthaya are both really cheap, most guesthouses will rent you a room for 3000-4000 per month. Food and nightlife really cheap there also, but not much in the way of beaches! Hua Hin is reasonably priced, but the beaches are nothing special. Samui can be done on the cheap, plenty of nice fully furnished houses/bungalows for less than 8000 per month. If you want to live like a local you can eat and drink for next to nothing anywhere in Thailand.

Another vote for Kanchanaburi (pronounced Garn-ja-na-boori). It is a part of Thailand that is often just included in a very long and rushed one-day trip from Bangkok to see the famous bridge over the Kwai and probably the controversial Tiger Temple. Australians usually also try to include the moving Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum as well.

In the town of Kanchanaburi you will find many top grade guest houses, some cheap hotels and a couple of up market hotels at about one-third of the rate charged in other cities in the Kingdom. There are many restaurants in the town which provides some of the cheapest food you will find in any town in Thailand.

Besides all of that, there is so much to do there. I play a lot of golf down there, but most of the visitors head to lovely Erawan Falls, Soi Yak falls, the national park, the ride on famous train all the way to Nam Tok, maybe some jungle trekking, visit an elephant sanctuary, just rest by the hotel swimming pool, have a nice drink on one of the pontoon bars/restaurants right beside the famous bridge. These are only some of the options, there are many others.
