Default Traveling to Thailand alone

Hi,

I'm going to be back packing in Thailand in a couple of weeks. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go and what to see. How you did it and so on. Also, I'm not too keen on doing this on my own. Any suggestions on how to get together with groups or meet up with people when you get there? I'm sure the hostels I'll be staying at will give me plenty of opportunity to meet people but it would be nice to have some plans before I get there. Thanks.

Thailand is definitely one of the easiest countries to travel alone and meet people, especially around Khao san Road in Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya or Chiang Mai. Honestly don't worry, just arrive and you will be surprised.

i will cut and paste what i wrote to another guest...here you go..

hey! I was in thailand in Nov. I am also from Canada, female and travelled by myself...I love thailand...even when i got stuck there for an extra 12 days because of the protest!

how long are you going for? Dont be scared..i was so scared when i boarded the plane..not once was a scared and i enjoyed every minute of it. I started in bangkok then to phuket/patong...was suppose to go to phi phi..but got hammered the night before and missed my trip...then off to the moon party..was in chaing mai then back to bangkok.

I booked my trips through this one guy...super duper nice and he changed my plans when needed to be...the thing is...dont book your day trips right away...book one or two at a time...cause you may change your mind.

first day i did the tiger temple/floating market and kwai bridge (sp)...

i did village trek in chaing mai along with a cooking class and elephant ride w/ white water rafting..in chaing mai ..hmm i have all the hotels written down.

how much money are you taking with you...did u have a ball park in how much you wanna spend a night on hotels? In bangkok i stayed at the D&D inn which is on Koa San Rd...that place is crazy intense...tons of backpackers...they have a pool and salon/internet cafe on thier roof...also at the corner of the street there is a club "gullivers" everyone goes there...ppl are really friendly...stay away from tuk tuk drivers...make sure you neogiate the price first...if they say 100 baht tell them 50 baht....

when you get off the plane...make sure you stand in line to get a taxi and know where you are going..if u go to Koa San rd..it should cost no more then 400 baht...print off a map to the hotel so you dont get scammed...

oh man i have soo much to tell you! I will look at my business cards to give you the name of the guy that helped me out..and the hotel cards. Always carry a hotel card with you so when you are trying to get back to the hotel just show that to the driver...

bangkok - there are plenty of nice temples to see...get the Frommers book and do your research...i went to Autthiya (sp) u see a bunch of old ruins...

potong - u will see alot of ladyboys..but there club street is good...there i met some great ppl...

go to phi phi - i am so mad that i missed it..

chaing mai is chill - cooking class was good i stayed at Christies and that was about 300 baht a night...

email me...i will give the rest of the details (and i have tons of details, this post is minor to what i will send you)..all my pics are on facebook...

reenaraj05@gmail.com

dont over pack like i did! bring a fanny pack- yeah i know it is ugly but it comes in handy and never ever pay full price for anything....go to the weekend fleamarket in bangkok...but go there at the end of your trip cause you dont want to lug around all the stuff u bought...bring an extra battery for your camera.. and an outlet converter....bring extra locks (dollar store)..i can write forever...i wish i was going back again!

and make sure you always get a METERED TAXI - even if the cab says no...tell to fine...grab the next taxi...
