I am interested in this area can anyone tell me anything about it
whats there?
whats the main place / area to stay?
best beach?
accommodation recommendations?
Is low season really bad?
are there enough places to eat and drink?

There is beach, nice nature and it is close to Khao Lak National Park (nice) and Khao Sok National Park (excellent).
It is one outstreched beach.
Low season is really bad, with nearly everything closed and lots of rubbish on the beach coming from the sea. Also the waves will splash onto the beach, very often no swimming possible.
Enough places to eat and drink, but this a nice example of the hotels trying to keep everybody in the hotels.
I was thinking of Khao Lak myself Jax..... will transit through Bangkok in August and have about 6 days to go somewhere we haven't been before.
Khao Lak was hit very hard by the tsunami and lots of it has been rebuilt.
Some of the hotels look lovely but if half the area is closed down as Steven suggests, then maybe Khao Lak will not be the place for us in August.
