Cheers Geri | Thank you Geri - it's appreciated. Because I'm new at the helm I am uber-sensitive to criticism. I want to carefully consider any such complaints passed my way and throw them to the floor to the established members to see what they think. I believe we have a healthy concensus on this issue, which agrees with my own personal feelings. Regardless - and despite the calls to do so - no-one shall be banned from this forum as a result of this criticism; I shall continue to monitor the member in question on a post-by-post basis, allowing the acceptable posts and deleting the others. I firmly believe everyone has a contribution to make on this forum; but some need more "Pavlov's Dog" training than others.

ThaiVisa's a good forum to let loose. You can say anything you want, as long as you agree with the moderators!

I do realise not all the bar girls are forced into Prostitution,I also realise some Guys also meet girls and develop their relationships into mutually beneficial partnerships.
I have a friend who has done exactly that, and he freely admits that if she left him tomorrow,he has had the happiest ten years of his life whilst with her in Britain. So I do realise not everything about the sex trade is negative, but some of the reading available out there regarding the sex trade is terribly depressing.
Women and children are being trafficed in, and are held against their will.People trafficing is a massive business ,and you can include Europe in that.I just feel sorry for people who have to work in the sex industry purely because there are no decent jobs available for them. After all who on here would be happy to see their daughter have to go into such an occupation just to earn a living?
Inspite of all this I have to say Thailand is an amazing place to visit.I am happy to read about peoples views on The Sex Industry in Thailand, but I see little good in the forum being used to promote The Sex Industry. We all know it exists, and it is easilly found by those seeking it,so why promote it on here?

I can't understand the obsessing with needing it discussed here. Are we going to come up with the answers? Will one of the "two week holiday experts" provide valuable insights?
Beyond a specific telephone number, address, and/or pricing, what can be added that isn't posted ad nauseum.
Puberty's such a pain!!!!

I totally agree with Shanek and the others. If this person (you don't have to be Einsten to work out who it is) wants to discuss the Thai sex scene and its appelations then he has about 50 forums to choose from. Mate, get yourself a life, go to the Thai sex forums, and leave the rest of us alone . . . . please!!!!!

lets unfocus ourselves on bargirls and focus on the point in fact that "hands up who has been deleted"
I have been deleted for trying to post warnings on here about dangers when traveling and that's not the sort of thing we want on the forum.
Drop the bargirl rubbish thats just smoke screens and mirrors Steve.
I and others have been deleted. And nothing to do with bargirls. Im not interested in that subject. I want full travel info on this forum.
Negative aspects of Thailand. Saving you from alot of hassle though other travelers experiences.

| | My opinion on the direction of the forum.
I think the forum should be well balanced. I think the forum should be clean. All mentions to the naughter side of Thailand should be not taboo but in keeping with the fact its a family forum. Therefore I am against the forum becoming a sex expat, sex tourist forum like many people who missed my point completely have suggested.
Ok now that's out the way lest address the real issue which has been somewhat fogged over with silly replies to Steves last thread.
I was the guy sent the letter to Steve as I think the forum is not well rounded and balanced certain moderators are deleting and not allowing threads and replies because they think we should only focus on the positive and not the negative side of life and holiday making in Thailand.
I am not for this mode of thought. I think the forum should be open to focus on the negative sides of Thailand aswell as the positive.
I think it would greatly benefit the readers of the forum to know where not to go in Thailand and where to watch out for in relation to crime.
If a negative thread on this forum stopped crime against tourists then it is a well worthwhile post indeed. I have posted a few threads myself on this subject that didn't see the light of day.
In Thailand their are many pitfalls aswell as good things and we should have the freedom a the right to post as we please within the boundries of forum rules. I was given explanations that I had broken no rules but my posts were not the sort of thing we want on the forum. We want more positive threads that agree with the opinons of those moderators who deem what you be seen and not seen on this forum.
I think democrisy should see the light of day in this forum and a person should not be put down for having a different opinon as long as it is within the boundry of forum rules. As long as it is clean and does not use bad languge I think any aspect of Thailand should be covered for the reader to get the full picture. We are like journalists on this forum reporting out experiences and thus providing a valuble service for tourists and learning from each other. We don't always like what we read in a newspaper but we wouldn't like our news to anything but true and informative with the full picture for us all to divulge.

I think it would greatly benefit the readers of the forum to know where not to go in Thailand and where to watch out for in relation to crime. | This is my final word on the matter. It's the exact text of the email I sent to the person who complained about having a "negative" thread deleted on the forum. It explains my position clearly. It should have been sufficient then without having the need to go through all of this. Thanks for your email. It doesn't really violate any rules, but as you'll see by the latest thread I started I don't want to dwell too much on negative aspects of Thailand. Sure, they're there - but I don't want to encourage too much griping. Negativity was exactly the reason why a lot of people left this forum originally, and now I've taken it over and worked hard to build it up again, I want to retain the positive and friendly vibe of the place.
I hope you'll understand. I prefer posts like your Thai wildlife post - beautiful - rather than dwelling on crimes and murders. We certainly need to warn people about the dangers of Thailand and how to stay safe, but I prefer to do this when a traveller comes along to ask "is Bangkok safe?" (we get a post like that every few weeks) rather than creating our own threads about it. Thread closed. |
