Can anyone recommend somewhere reasonably priced that offers fully comp. insurance? I did an online quote for Hertz and it worked out at $40 per day!!

TA Car Rentals, that have an office in ChoengMon Beach have Sukuki 2 door jeeps for 600-700 baht per day depending on the length of rental. This includes Insurance but like most smaller dealers it will not be "comprehensive" and will require you to pay the first 10000 baht in case of damage. In my dealings with them I have found them to be honest, reliable and they have reasonable quality vehicles. If you want complete collision waiver you are best of with one of the major companies like Hertz.

Thanks. Actually, the 10,000 baht excess, if applicable, could be claimed from car hire coverage on travel insurance?

I found the airport very good not expensive and handy if you arrive by plane ,as it saves you taxi cost to and from the airport ,I paid 1200 baht a day for a fairly new Toyota Altis
