Merchandise has always been at tourist price , unless you can speak Thai .
Even in so called fixed price places such as MBK you can still ask and mostly get a discount .
Still a lot cheaper to eat , drink and stay than here in UK even at the current rate of exchange .

Love the photos Shanek. They really do make the case that, comparatively, things are cheaper in Thailand.

Should go without saying that as regions become more touristy, the prices go up.

I pine for older days as well, but it rarely results in anything positive.

We found hotel accomodation, food, cosmetics, clothes, grocery items in super markets cheaper than Delhi.

That's a familiar view... VN Guesthouse in Kanchanaburi, right?

good eye, i've stayed there also and missed that

on that, just got back from kanchanaburi, stayed at camelia this time, nice 500 w/pool, though restaurant wasn't nearly as good. but sampled a couple new places, that were, though maybe 2 km walk, if not tuk tuk or motorbike. i self drive. tai thai was good, and another place further down that advertised 80 baht breakfast, which was ok, and had an nice club sandwich. not exactly touist food, but nice change. apple guesthouse, non river location was ok also, though spiced down. but decent value for food.

on topic, things have increased quite a bit, live here so notice it alot, expecially in tourist areas. but basic living items also much higher over past couple years. does depend where you come from, me/usa, so most things are more expensive and junk, the big savings are on housing and taxes, utilities, meds, but only help if living here, doesn't effect tourist.
