Hello All,
I am headed to Thailand in a mere twelve days..I am going on my own and plan to spend time in Bangkok, and Koh Sumai. I am definitely a newbie Blink and now have a heightened sense of caution after reviewing some of the forums..
Having never travelled solo before (let alone to Thailand) can someone reccomend a way of connecting to other "farangs" that does not involve the Kao San area??
Id appreciate that and any other tips - Hotel ect...

Well if you enjoy a few cold beers you can always head for the bars and get chatting with the farangs. There are lots of friendly people at the bars on Koh Samui. I've met some very nice holiday makers and had some great conversations. I've even organized sharing the cost of renting boats to the islands for fishing and snorkeling trips by chatting to tourists at the bars.

well, in bkk, suk11 on sukhomvit soi 11 is great place to meet farang travellers as yourself. SUK11 HOSTEL will give you info about them, tho hurry if wanting to make reservation, they fill up quite often.

i would personally, if single, head over to NEP, (nana entertainment plaza) an adult venue of bars, and see if meeting any like minded local female, that would make a great 'tour guide' while you are here, and save you quite a bit of time/trouble/money, possibly, as knowing where to go and eat, if been to samui before, offer some more assistance. feel free to pm me if thinking about it, possible give you my limited knowledge from limited experience, but helpful if going that route. though if staying at suk11, only guest that check in with you are allowed in rooms after certain time.
