Hi there - returning to Thailand next week - 7 July - staying in Kaoh Lak for a week at the Suwan Palm - anyone been there and if so what was it like? Are there good restaurants i the area around please.

Then returning to the Fairhouse for 7th year running for 9 days although understand there is a lot of building work going on - is that still the case please?

And is the Dolce Vita restaurant in Chaweng still running - best Italian I have ever eaten at - including Italy!!??

The Suwan Palm is located in Bang La On, the area normally referred to as the centre of Khao Lak. Here I can personally recommend the following restaurants-

Phu Khao Lak
Ruen Mai
Everyday
Jai
Bang La On has a good range of restaurants, bars, shops, banks, ATM's and tailors. Most of these will be open in July although this is the low season in Khao Lak.
