JB. You seem to have a very limited and biased view of this subject. Thai bars = sex = exploitation.
There are many different types of bars in Thailand. Yes, go-go bars, BJ bars, bars with rooms for sex upstairs, are all part of the sex industry and the girls who work in them are mostly prostitutes (there are also cleaners, cashiers, cooks). But there are also beachside bars, poolside bars, jazz bars, blues bars, rock bars, C&W bars, cocktail bars. Not every customer who goes to a bar is looking for sex or to exploit somebody. People (including tourists) go to bars to play pool, play darts, watch sports on big screens, watch films or music vids on DVD, to listen to music, to eat or chat to people for company. And there are people who go to bars purely to drink (believe it or not) I've sat drinking in beach bars on Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Railay and other islands where the bar staff were all local muslim girls and certainly none of them were selling sex. I've been to bars all over Thailand where clubs and sports people, like the Hash House Harriers or golfers, go to met each other and drink & chat together. The gals that staffed these bars were not prostitutes offering sex, nor were they victims or being abused. Everybody seemed happy and jolly. So what's the problem?
